Show summary:
This live dramatic anthology was produced by the Theatre Guild (which was formed to raise the standard of theatre presentations) and was the successor to their ABC radio series The Theatre Guild on the Air which ran from 1945 until the TV series began. The program aired on alternate weeks, rotating with other dramatic series on ABC from 1953 to 1955 (Tuesdays 9:30PM -10:30PM Eastern) and on CBS from 1955 to 1963 (Wednesdays, 10:00PM - 11:00PM Eastern). By the time the series ended, it was the last live drama series from New York from the television's "Golden Age".
The series honored with numerous Emmy Award nominations and wins throughout its run: Two 1953 wins for "Best Dramatic Program" and "Best New Program" (presented 2/11/1954).
A 1954 win for "Best Dramatic Series", and a nomination for "Best Director" Alex Segal.1955 nominations for "Best Dramatic Series", "Best Producer - Live Series", "Best Actor - Single Performance" for Ralph Bellamy in The Fearful Decision (airing 6/22/1954 and restaged 5/10/1955), "Best Actress - Single Performance" for Julie Harris in A Wind from the South, "Best Director - Live Series" for Alex Segal and No Time for Sergeants (airing 3/15/1955), "Best Original Teleplay Writing for Cyril Hume and Richard Maibaum for The Fearful Decision (airing 6/22/1954 and restaged 5/10/1955), and "Best Single Program of the Year" for No Time for Sergeants (airing 3/15/1955).1958-1959 nomination "Best Single Performance by an Actress" for Helen Hayes for One Red Rose for Christmas (airing 12/17/1958).1960-1961 nomination "Outstanding Single Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role" for Cliff Robertson in The Two Worlds of Charlie Gordon (airing 2/21/1961).
